NAHKI WELLS – HUDDERSFIELD

Nahki Wells’ super sub Michael Hefele teammate rescued a dramatic point for Huddersfield Town less than a minute after going on at pumped-up Villa Park.

It looked as though Ross McCormack, the man Town fans love to hate, had stuck the boot in once again as the busy Aston Villa sought a second successive win.

The £12m signing from Fulham scored his first goal for his new club midway through the first half.

Villa could, and should, have had more than McCormack’s header to show for their dominance up to the break.

But battling Town made a much better fist of things in the second half, Wells hit a post from a free-kick before Hefele struck on 87 minutes to stun the home fans in a 34,924 crowd. He’d been on the field only a minute!

David Wagner made just one change as he attempted to maintain Town’ flying start to the Championship campaign, recalling Jack Payne, the match-winner at Newcastle United on Saturday, in place of Wells, the scorer of Town’s opener at St James’ Park.

Wells, who Wagner says is still working his way back to full match fitness after a knee injury, was among the substitutes as Town made their first visit to Villa Park since 1987/88 to face a home side unchanged after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Rotherham United.

RAI SIMONS – CHESTERFIELD & KACY MILAN BUTTERFIELD – WALSALL

Two sensational Ched Evans goals in five second-half minutes sealed back-to-back home wins for Rai Simons’ Chesterfield as they defeated Kacy Milan Butterfield’s Walsall 2-0 at the Proact.

Simons replaced Evans in the90th minute, while Buttefield was not in the Walsall team.

Goal-less at the break, Evans's quick-fire double in the final 15 minutes - the first of which a superb near-post drive - sent the Chesterfield clear as they claimed all three points for the second time in four days.

REGGIE LAMBE – CARLISLE UNITED

Reggie Lambe’s Carlisle United created chance after chance - and hit the woodwork three times - but they left it late to claim their point having been undone by a lightning quick second half break which took the gloss off another very good performance.

Carlisle started in confident mood and Michael Jones and Nicky Adams set the tone as they battled for every ball in midfield. The pair combined well on the right flank to rob possession and Lambe came across to help out as the home side edged forward. Adams showed again on the edge of the area but his clipped cross was just too high for Shaun Miller to convert.

Carlisle United keeper Mark Gillespie was in action in the 57th minute as he dropped late to parry a stinging Cheltenham Town’s Harry Pell free kick as it went under his wall.

Carlisle finally got some reward when a ball into the box found Jason Kennedy with the target in his sights. He pushed and bustled and got the touch it needed to send it over the line in the 89th minute.
