NAHKI WELLS

Adam Clayton scored his first Middlesbrough goal to seal a hard-fought 2-0 win against Nahki Wells and his former club Huddersfield.

Midfielder Clayton, signed for Boro for 1.5million in summer 2014 but went through the whole of last season without hitting the target.

Town made high-flying Middlesbrough fight all the way and the result was in doubt until the 84th minute when Emilio Nsue added the second, also his first for the club.

Back-to-back defeats for Huddersfield have come under new head coach David Wagner, whose high-tempo football will take time and patience and is clearly a work in progress.

Huddersfield outplayed Boro throughout the first half but went behind to Clayton's ninth-minute strike.

A stray pass from Town defender Martin Cranie led to a corner from which Boro scored. Stewart Downing's set-piece was half-cleared by Emyr Huws and Clayton picked up the ball, side-stepped two defenders and fired home a deflected shot.

Boro almost let Town back in the game immediately when Albert Adomah brought down Jamie Paterson on the edge of the box.

Wells curled the free-kick around the wall but the ball came back off the crossbar.

Wells should have equalized shortly afterwards when a quick ball out of defense allowed Sean Scannell to go on the run.

Scannell's early cross found Wells unmarked at the far post but Middlesbrough goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos rushed out to deny him.

RAI SIMONS

Swindon won away for the first time since September when they cruised to a 4-0 win at Rai Simons and his Chesterfield teammates who crashed to a fourth straight defeat.

Nicky Ajose started and finished the rout with Louis Thompson and Jon Obika completing one of Swindon's best displays of the season.

In the 50th minute Swindon’s goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux denied Simons who played the entire 90 minutes.

REGGIE LAMBE

Reggie Lambe and his Mansfield Town teammates survived a late scare to win 3-1 at Barnet in a game which saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Mansfield’s Bermudian winger Lambe opened the scoring in the 31st minute, lobbing over Barnet’s goalkeeper Jamie Stephens and into the top-right corner after racing on to Chris Clements' flick-on.

Barnet were reduced to 10 men seven minutes before the break when right-back Josh Clarke scythed down goalscorer Lambe and was shown a second yellow card.

Town top-scorer Matt Green doubled the advantage with an hour played, latching on to Craig Westcarr's pass and slotting left-footed into the bottom-right corner.

Barnet substitute John Akinde halved the deficit with 13 minutes to play, sending Brian Jensen the wrong from the penalty spot after being brought down by the Mansfield goalkeeper.

Town midfielder Clements was dismissed for a second bookable offence following a challenge on Shaun Batt in the 82nd minute and Barnet almost took advantage to claim an equalizer when Jensen parried Elliott Johnson's powerful drive from distance.

But it was the visitors who wrapped the game up with two minutes to play when Barnet defender Michael Nelson put the ball into his own goal following a goalmouth scramble.
