FIRST DIVISION

BAA 2 Paget Lions 0

After a scoreless first half in this First Division match at BAA Field, Jamin Lottimore gave BAA the lead against the Paget Lions when he finished from close range in the 54th minute.

In the 66th minute Jecoa Thomas doubled the BAA lead earning them the 2 – 0 win.

RAI SIMONS

Rory Donnelly scored for the third successive game as Gillingham registered a 3-1 win over Rai Simons and his Chesterfield teammates at the Proact Stadium.

Gillingham, who had lost their previous two away league games, took the lead in the 26th minute when captain John Egan pounced from close range.

But Chesterfield, who have now lost six of their last eight matches in all competitions, levelled nine minutes later as Simons latched on to Sam Morsy's ball to score his first league goal.

Donnelly restored Gillingham's lead in the 54th minute as he headed in Jermaine McGlashan's cross for his fifth goal in three games.

Harry Lennon made the points safe 18 minutes from time as he diverted in Donnelly's delivery.

REGGIE LAMBE

A pair of spectacular volleys helped Reggie Lambe and his Mansfield teammates defeat bottom club Newport 3-0 and stay in the play-off zone.

Craig Westcarr crashed in the opener five minutes after the break, but most fans were left talking about the second stunning volleyed finish in as many games by Mal Benning, this time from 20 yards out.

Substitute Adi Yussuf then completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Newport defended well in a first half in which Mansfield stayed patient and asked most of the questions.

Exiles goalkeeper Joe Day got down to keep out a Benning shot and then did even better to block a diving header from his own defender Matt Taylor as he tried to cut out a Newport cross.

Lambe fired a shot straight at him from 10 yards from a Ryan Tafazolli nod-down on 37 minutes.

On 42 minutes Day made his best save so far as his legs blocked a far-post diving header from former Newport striker Matt Green, who met a Jack Thomas cross from the left.

But the breakthrough came five minutes into the second half as Benning crossed from the left and Jack Thomas cushioned the ball invitingly for Westcarr to smash home a rising volley from five yards.

Day was then at full stretch to keep out a Green effort on the turn and a Tafazolli header as Mansfield tried to ram home their advantage.

And the Stags made it safe on 70 minutes with a stunning goal. Thomas spotted Benning 20 yards from goal and sent over a long inviting cross which the left back lashed into the net on the volley.

Home goalkeeper Brian Jensen then had to twice deny Zak Ansah as the Exiles pushed forward, but Yussuf had the final say when he turned well 18 yards from goal from Mitch Rose's pass to drill home a low finish inside the right post.

JONTE SMITH

A professional performance from Gloucester City saw them reach the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup once more as they saw off a gallant Leiston 3-1.

The Tigers' strikers were causing havoc for Leiston's centre halves as Smith went up for a header that was narrowly wide.

The breakthrough came soon after as Joe Hanks burst through the final line of defence before being clattered by goalkeeper Ashlee Jones who duly saw red.

In the absence of regular penalty taker Billy Jones, George Miller stepped up to send replacement 'keeper Ben Vincent the wrong way.

After the restart, Tom Webb tried an ambitious effort from the corner of the box that was inches wide.

The second goal came courtesy of Jonte Smith following a superb mazy run. The Bermuda international beat three men before finishing with aplomb.

City's third came through Swindon Town loanee Cooke following a brilliant through ball from Smith and Cooke rounded the 'keeper to slot into an empty net.
