Back on September 14th, 1955 a group of Bermuda Footballers represented Bermuda Internationally for the first time in Football when the Bermuda Football League (BFL) All-Star team took on the Ubrik Trackers Football Club who were the Football Champions of Philadelphia at the Connie Mack Stadium.
The Bermuda Football League All-Star team consist of Granville Waldron, Relbean Ali, Lenard Paul, Austin Hughes, Ralf Mallory, Vivian Philpott, Russell Leverock, McDonald Simmons, Cork Seymour, Leroy Burns, Cal White, Frogo Simmons, Fred Raynor, David Agustus, Townsey Russell, Alton Dears, Chum Morrison, Eugene Gilbert and Dudley Eve was the coach.
Sixty years later only six of the players in that team are still alive, Eugene Gilbert, Townsey Russell and Leroy Burns were joined by longtime friend Billy Richardson, who was not a part of the team, but was playing at the time looked over pictures and talked about the time in Philadelphia as well as Local Football at the time.
Gilbert said, “We did not win a game, but the team was put together as the BFL wanted a team to represent them overseas.”
