Rai Simons gets the start for the Chesterfield Football Club in their Final Third Development Reserves League first match of the season against Doncaster Rovers at the Proact Stadium in Chesterfield.
The game started with Simons breaking into the right edge of the box in the 12th minute, but his cross was not put away.
Byron Harrison gave Chesterfield the lead in the 20th minute, a floated corner saw Harrison out jump the Doncaster defense and head with some authority into the back of the net at the back post.
Within a minute Liam Mandeville had equalized for Doncaster, the ball bounced on the edge of the Chesterfield box and Mandeville whipped the ball into the back of the net.
In the 30th minute Simons brought the home crowd to their feet with a stunning overhead kick. Another corner was only partially cleared with Simons acrobatically hooking the ball into the back of the net.
Two minutes before the break the score was 2 – 2 as Mandeville scored his second of the game, a scramble in the box saw the ball fall to the feet of Mandeville who picked the top corner of the goal with a blast.
The second half saw the two teams battle back and forth until the 75th minute when Byron Harrison gave Chesterfield the lead 3 – 2, a cross from Simons saw Harrison’s initial touch taking him wide, but he cut back and drilled the ball into the bottom corner.
Chesterfield was able to hold on for the 3 – 2 win a start to their season they were looking for.
