Leverock & Harrisburg Go Down

IslandStats.com
What appeared to be a good evening in Pittsburgh for Dante Leverock and his Harrisburg City Islanders, as they held a 3-0 lead at halftime over the host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. But it turned out to be a dramatic night for Pittsburgh, as they rallied back with three goals in extra time to win the game 6-5 on Kevin Kerr's goal in the extra time following the second half.

Kerr's first goal of the season allowed Pittsburgh to go 2-0 against the City Islanders this year, Pittsburgh won the season opener 5-2.

Harrisburg held a 5-4 lead going into the final minutes, but Rob Vincent scored early in the extra time to tie the score.

The comeback seemed unlikely when the City Islanders scored three goals in a 10 minute span of the first half. Yann Ekra opened the scoring in the 28th minute, with Danny DiPriman following in the 37th minute and Joe Barrill in the 38th minute.

Momentum quickly turned in the second half, though. Goals by Vincent and Amara Soumah had the hosts within 3-2 by the 52nd minute.

The City Islanders seemed to regain control of the game when Jason Plumhoff scored off of an assist by Cardel Benbow, making it 4-2 in the 56th minute.

But the Riverhounds bounced back on a play that at first seemed to favor Harrisburg. In the 81st minute, City Islanders goalie Nick Nobile stopped a penalty kick by Kerr. Danny Earls scored off of the rebound to get Pittsburgh back within 4-3.

Harrisburg again seemed to get the cushion it needed when Garret Pettis scored off an assist by Barrill in the 86th minute to make the score 5-3. But Earls scored again just after the 90th minute to get the Riverhounds within a goal.
