Wells to Burnley Reports Resurfaces

IslandStats.com
Following Islandstats.com report on Monday that Huddersfield Town’s Nahki Wells could be heading to Burnley that saw other local media copy, news comes today out of the UK reported by Metro News asking the question Are Burnley about to swoop for Wells?

Metro News are reporting, Burnley scouts have being spotted recently at the John Smith’s Stadium, fuelling rumours that James Vaughan is set to leave The Terriers in this transfer window.

Aiding the rumour mill is the possibility that Burnley’s out of favour striker, Marvin Sordell, could be the makeweight in a £1million deal.

It’s not difficult to understand the link between Chris Powell and Sordell after the pair had previously worked with each other at Charlton.

It would be folly however to believe that Burnley are eyeing the progress of Vaughan rather than Nahki Wells to solve their Premier League goal tally this season.

Town’s record signing, Wells, has found himself in and out of the starting line-up even though he remains the club’s leading scorer this season.

With Premier League safety at stake, his instinct in front of goal is comparable to Danny Ings and he’d be viewed as an avenue to find goals from the bench for The Clarets.

Sordell and Wells are similar in physique and attributes and would appear a more viable exchange for both parties.

The allure for Town to finance other deals this window with an influx of cash may be too seductive and is reminiscent of the Clayton/Butterfield deal in the summer.

In times of FFP austerity, a deal for Wells could be the catalyst to replenish the squad with a touch more quality and strengthening key positions would be a logical solution.

A physical striker to help lead the line is a must since the departure of Grant Holt and another robust and organised centre-half is required to help shore-up the backline.

The sticking point for Town at the moment would surely be the £1million fee for Wells, who having provided goals and some sparkling performances, has seen his value rocket.

There’s clearly a deal to be done but Burnley would need to provide more grease to Town’s palm to move things forward.
