Hall and Chester Pick Up A Win

IslandStats.com
A man of the match display by Sean McConville ensured Freddy Hall and his Chester teammates picked up their first points of the season.

The forward scored two and created the other goal in an excellent second half display following Kenny Davis' first half penalty had given the Iron the lead.

Chester started slowly in this one, and were almost behind immediately as Chez Isaac found some space, but his shot was met by a terrific one handed save by Hall. Sean Marks then hit the crossbar just moments later, and the nervous defense was eventually broken when John Disney handled set piece that was whipped into the area. Kenny Davis had no troubles in dispatching the penalty.

Chester did respond as Mahon's flicked effort was tipped over, and then Rooney blasted well over from the edge of the box, but could not come any closer to levelling the scores in the first half.

Braintree then had further chances via a free header from Marks which went wide, and Dan Taylor who nipped past Brown and Charnock before shooting wide from around 20 yards.

But Steve Burr's side responded excellently and John Rooney hit the post seconds after the restart. Rooney then turned provider as he slotted a ball through to McConville, who finished coolly to draw Chester level.

The visitors were enduring a purple patch in the game, as Iwelumo then fired over the bar minutes before he provided Chester with the first lead they have taken in a match of the season. McConville sent in a deep cross and the former Scotland international had no trouble finishing. McConville extended the lead moments later when he was teed up by Craig Mahon.
