Wade Reflects on Burchall & Matches Postponed

The Football Community is still trying to come to grips with the sudden death of Mazhye Burchall, Mark Wade the current Bermuda Football Association President, was coaching the pHC Zebras when Burchall burst onto the scene.

Many news outlets around Bermuda have focused on Burchall’s CONCACAF goal, but football fans around the island would remember that Burchall’s name quickly became a household one when he scored the PHC Zebras Dudley Eve winner at the Wellington Oval back on November 11th, 2015.

Burchall, within four minutes after coming on as a 74th-minute substitute, it was his first goal for the senior team. Burchall was a CedarBridge Academy student at the time making his first appearance in a Senior Cup Final.

Wade during an interview reflected on Burchall and his talent that was recognized early in his young career.

Meanwhile the Bermuda Football Association has announced two Premier Division matches have been postponed due to the funeral of Burchall which will take place on Sunday September 23rd.

www.islandstats.com and the Bermuda Football Association have joined forces again this Season in a bid to encourage more Referees to join the ranks.

This Live segment takes place Live from the BFA Office beginning at 5:30pm.

Weekly www.islandstats.com will be interviewing Referees to discuss several issues including Laws of the game.

BFCA C License Course Resumes

The Bermuda Football Coaches Association – UEFA C License Equivalent course is set to resume, Tuesday September 18th, 2018.

The candidates completed 20 hours of course activity in March, and will complete the on field practical sessions during this week before being assessed over the weekend at the National Sports Center.

Successful completion of the course helps qualify the candidate for the BFA C License, enabling them to coach youth football teams from Under 13 – Under 17.

The course is led by coach educator Jacques Crevoisier, who coached for the French Football Federation at Clairefontaine where he won the under 18 European Championship in 2000.

Crevoisier was also a UEFA Senior Director for the Technical Department and the first team coach at Liverpool FC from 2001 to 2003.

In addition he has consulted for Sochaux, St. Etienne and Monaco and provided psychology work at Arsenal and Tottenham.

Hamilton Parish - Southampton Rangers Action

Hamilton Parish 1 Southampton Rangers 6

At the Wellington Oval, visiting Southampton Rangers defeated Hamilton Parish 6 – 1, Jarazhino Basset gave the Southampton Ranger the lead in the 16th minute, Ezekiel Stoneham doubled the lead in the 66th minute, but four minutes later Chris Caisey scored for Hamilton Parish to pull within one. Donte Brangman would restore the Southampton Rangers two goal lead in the 72nd minute, and then Caldre Burgess would make it 4 – 1 with a goal in the 84th minute, Stoneham would find the net in the first minute of injury time, with Burgess adding his second three minutes later.

Wolves 4 Devonshire Colts 2

At the Garrison Field, Wolves would defeat visitors Devonshire Colts 4 – 2. Lamont Brangman scored three times for Wolves, while Lamelle Paynter added the other. Eli Smith and Clevelyn Crichlow scored a goal each for the Devonshire Colts.

Ireland Rangers 4 Young Men Social Club 0

At Malabar, Ireland Rangers defeated Young Men Social Club 4 – 0, Ireland Rangers got two goals apiece from Daunte Woods and Jonathan Bean.


North Village Rams 3 Paget Lions 0

The North Village Rams welcomed the Paget Lions back to the Premier Division with a 3 – 0 win. Che'kai Caisey would head the North Village Rams into the lead in the 18th minute, Kyler Knights doubled the lead in the 35th minute. Jahquan Smith-Deshields would close out the scoring in the 80th minute.

BAA 1 Dandy Town Hornets 4

At the BAA Field, the visiting Dandy Town Hornets spoiled BAA’s first match in the Premier Division with a 4 – 1 win. The Dandy Town Hornets would get two goals from Oneko Lowe and Angelo Simmons, while Drewonde Bascome scored the lone goal for BAA.

PHC Zebras 3 Boulevard Blazers 1

At the PHC Stadium, the defending premier Division Champions PHC Zebras had to come from behind to defeat the Boulevard Blazers 3 – 1. Khiry Easton would give the Boulevard Blazers the lead, but two Tre Ming strikes and a single strike from Diondre Dowling earned them the win.

X-Road’s 5 Somerset Trojans 3

At the Garrison Field, X-Road’s defeated the Somerset Trojans 5 – 3.

Donavan Thompson would lead X-Road’s to victory with two goals, while Tymon Daniels, Jahron Dickinson and Jamin Furbert all found the back of the net for the winners. Vernon Perinchief, D’Andre Wainwright and Justin Corday all scored a goal each for the Somerset Trojans.

Teams come together before the match

St. George’s Colts 1 Somerset Eagles 1

The St. George’s Colts and Somerset Eagles shared the spoils at the Wellington Oval in a 1 – 1 draw. Sage Paynter gave the St. George’s Colts the lead in the 20th minute, but Anwar Telford equalized for the Somerset Eagles in the 70th minute.

Flanagan’s Onions 1 Vasco Da Gama 0

After a scoreless first half at the BAA Field, the Flanagan’s Onions would get a 58th minute penalty strike from Shaki Swan to defeat Vasco Da Gama 1 – 0.


Robin Hood 1 Devonshire Cougars 1

It was a night that will not be forgotten as members of the PHC Zebras joined Robin Hood in a show of togetherness for the loss of Mazhye Burchall.

Burchall a player with Robin Hood and a former player with the PHC Zebras was fatality injured in a motorcycle accident last night.

The two teams were joined by the Devonshire Cougars players in a moment of silence prior to the start of the match.

The match ended in a 1 – 1 draw, with Lejuan Simmons scoring for Robin Hood in the 42nd minute, but an own goal in the 81st minute by a Robin Hood defender earned the Devonshire Cougars a point.
