The Cubs took the last of seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against the Cardinals, securing a 7-4 victory at Kindley Field in YAO Cal Ripken League Baseball action.
The Cubs managed to grab the lead after a strong third inning. A bases loaded walk by Kyle George scored Alex Downey gave Cubs the lead.
Kaelin Paynter pitched a strong 4 innings, striking out 10. Sam Resnik came in for the 5th & 6th to hold the Cardinals hitless over two innings, allowed no runs, walked none and struck out five.
In the top of the first, the Cardinals grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Travis Corday started the rally for the Cardinals with a single. Max Mcrimmon singled, plating Charves Tyrese.
The Cardinals added more runs when Cordey scored on an RBI single by Somers Mello. After a quick strike from the Cardinals, CUBS responded with two runs in the first on an RBI single by Resnik and an RBI single by Downey.
More runs came home on an RBI single by Michael Costello. The Cubs increased its lead with two runs in the fifth with a double by Resnik.
