Braxton Stowe and his No. 7-seed Saint Louis Baseball teammates dropped its opening game of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship 2-0 against second-seeded Davidson at Fordham's Houlihan Park.
Saint Louis slips to 25-29 with the loss and will play No. 6 Rhode Island in an elimination game.
Saint Louis' Jackson Wark was tagged with the loss despite an effective outing. He went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
He ran into trouble in the fourth. All with two outs, Davidson recorded two walks and a pair of singles – its first hits of the game – to go up 1-0. In the next inning, Davidson's Eric Jones hit a solo shot to right to give the Wildcats the 2-0 advantage.
Saint Louis managed six hits on the day, including two off the bat of senior third baseman Shane Benes, but they were unable to push any runs across off of Davidson All-Conference pitcher Casey Sutherland. Gabe Levy pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.
Jake Garella extended his hitting streak to 12 games and his on-base streak to 21.
