David Thomas, Pomander Gate’s Marketing and Communications Officer said, “Participant numbers in senior tournaments have been quite low over the past few years so we decided to reduce the cost to them by not having that portion of the event sanctioned. Essentially, we’re hoping to bring players back into the fold that may have found tournament entry fees cost-prohibitive.”
The two tournaments will be played concurrently at the Pomander Gate Tennis Club. Events Include: PGTC Open presented by Martini Men/Women: • Open Singles (+18 at Dec 31) • Open Doubles (+18 at Dec 31) • Mixed Doubles (+18 at Dec 31)
Bacardi Seniors Cup Men/Women: • Senior Singles (+40 at Dec 31) • Senior Doubles (+40 at Dec 31) • Super Senior Doubles (+55 at Dec 31)
Players should download entry forms from the new PGTC website, with events starting at $20/player.
The tournament will run from September 2nd - 9th and playing times for the Seniors will be as flexible as possible. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch some exciting tennis - there will be no cover charge.
Matches are set to begin each weekday at 5:30 pm, and at 9:00 am on the weekend.
Completed entry forms are being accepted at Pomander Gate Tennis Club and the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium until 12:00 pm on Wednesday, August 29. The Pomander Gate Tennis Club can be contacted for further information about the tournament at 236-5400 or via email at pgtc@northrock.bm.
