The first serve of the 2017 Deloitte Open Tennis Tournament will take place on Saturday, May 13th. The tournament will be hosted by Pomander Gate Tennis Club, and is sanctioned by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association. Deloitte has sponsored the competition for almost a decade. The tournament has grown to become a player-favorite on the local tennis calendar, attracting players who aim to establish, defend or improve their rankings.
John Johnston, Managing Director at Deloitte, says: "We are proud to once again support the Deloitte Open and are looking forward to a terrific tournament. I'm hoping that the tournament continues to attract a wide range of adult players, from our top ranked Davis Cup team players through to intermediate players and beginners. Most of all, we're looking forward to a strong contingent of our top younger players coming out for the event as they've done in previous years. On the other side of the spectrum, we have some really strong senior players in Bermuda - many of whom were top ranked juniors and adults in their day. There's no excuse this time of year for not getting out on the court and I challenge them to do so!"
Players from across the island can compete in the following categories: Menís & Ladiesí Open A and B Singles; Menís and Ladiesí Open A and B Doubles; Senior Menís & Ladiesí Singles; Senior Menís & Ladiesí Doubles; Super Senior Doubles; and Mixed Doubles. There will be a consolation draw for first match losers in each of the singles events, so that all singles players will be guaranteed at least two matches.
David Thomas, a top ranked local tennis player and Pomander Gate's Marketing and Communications Officer said: "Matches will be played daily from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekday evenings and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the weekend. Entry is free to spectators. Thomas added: "Beyond vying for valuable ranking points there is added incentive to participate Ė all participating players in the Deloitte Open will be eligible to win a travel voucher. To claim the prize the winner must be present at the prize-giving ceremony, the date of which will be announced during the tournament."
Entry forms are available at pgtc.bm, blta.bm or the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium. Completed entry forms will be accepted at Pomander Gate Tennis Club and the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9th.
