Trey Mallory and Scott Redmond were both back in action during the Jitic (Junior International Tennis Championships for Central America and the Caribbean) in El Salvador.
Mallory defeated the tournament #2 Seed Kobe James from Trinidad 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 in a hard fought battle from both players.
Coach Steve Bean said, "Mallory aged 14 playing in the 16 and Under’s has had a great tournament. He has won five of his six matches upsetting the number 2 & 4 seeds along the way. Tomorrow he has a chance to finish the tournament in 9th place from a total of 42 of the top players in the Caribbean and Central American region. This is great accomplishment and a huge boost for tennis in Bermuda."
Scott Redmond went down to Darren Martis from Curaçao in another tightly contested match 6-4, 7-5, Bean said, “To come so close to winning after such a long week of very competitive matches this was a tough loss for Redmond. He continued to fight and remain positive throughout the match. A few points here and there in each set made the difference. Redmond has one more match tomorrow, he will do everything we can to finish with a victory.”
