Na’im Azhar and his Cumberland University Men’s Tennis teammates swept the singles and doubles matches at 18th-ranked Lee University, winning four tiebreakers and a three-setter along the way in their 9-0 victory in Cleveland, Tenn.
Cumberland avenged its first loss of the season at No. 12 Lindsey Wilson with the victory over Lee University.
In Doubles Pedro Rodrigues and Andres Burgos defeated Kevin Tan and Flavio Azevedo Costa, 8-3, at No. 3 spot, before Evan Sanna and Antonio Manuel Marcelo won 9-7 at No. 1 spot versus Michael Yokosuk and Richard Gamble. Jeremy Fleming and Azhar outlasted Patrick Kim and Renan Moilneiro, 8-6, in a tiebreaker at No. 2 spot.
In singles Marcelo defeated Yokosuk, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 spot, while Azhar won 6-4, 7-6, against Gamble at No. 2 spot and Sanna came back to take a 2-6, 7-5, 3-0, lead at No. 3 spot before Kim retired. Rodrigues posted a 7-6, 6-1, at No. 4 spot versus Moilneiro, Burgos recorded a 6-1, 6-4, victory at No. 5 against Costa and Cristhian Hernandez finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 7-6 (3), triumph at No. 6 over Martinelli.
