Cross and North Carolina A and T Go Down

IslandStats.com
Gardner-Webb was able to defeat Cayla Cross and her North Carolina A and T Women’s Tennis teammates 7-0 as Cross and her team started its three-match road trip.

The match was a little bit different, as it was Cross and her teammate’s first outdoor match in more than a month, since they've played most of their matches indoor, so that was different. It was also a little different because there were differences in the A and T lineup.

After starting at No. 1 against conference opponent S.C. State, sophomore Kimberly Stalling was back at No. 4. Junior Cross returned to the No. 1 spot for A and T. Sophomore Victorea Austin moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 for the second time this season, and junior Nianna Henry made her first No. 6 singles start of the season in her first singles match since Jan. 21. Junior April Burrage was absent from the singles lineup.

There were also some changes in the doubles lineup, as Henry was paired with senior Azeib Nigatu for the first time this season in the first doubles match. Cross and Stalling competed in the second doubles match for their first match as a team.

The new lineup produced some results, as A and T scored more points than they did against S.C. State. Austin posted the most points in singles for the Aggies, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Yasmin Doost.

Cross lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 against Erica White, while in the doubled, Cross and Stalling went down 8 – 0 to Alice Hopkinsa and Yasmin Doost.
