Rawlins & Sydney & ICC Americas Update

IslandStats.com
In the second grade of the New South Wales Premier Cricket competition, Delray Rawlins was in the Sydney side taking on Randwick Petersham in the first day of a two day match.

Batting at number five, Rawlins scored 23 in Sydney’s first innings total of 112 all out. At the close, Randwick Petersham had reached 155-4 in reply.

Rawlins also has a wicket.

Meanwhile on the day the event gets underway Tournament Director for the Americas Qualifier, Billy McDermott is excited to be hosting the Americas Qualifier. “To host a tournament is always a great opportunity to spread the word and promote the game at home, friends and family can be there to support our guys, so it is all positive.

“We hosted a World Cricket League in 2009, the Americas’ Division 3 in 2014 and last year the qualifier in the ICC World Cricket League with Cayman Islands.”

ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley is delighted with the new structure.

“This is great news for the ICC World T20 as a tournament, with such a large number of teams competing across the world. The event, which is two years away, will really begin to build momentum as teams are only three steps away from the pinnacle of T20 cricket, in what I am sure will be a highly exciting and competitive qualification process, with the best teams qualifying.’

ICC General Manager – Development, William Glenwright, is thrilled by the opportunity this brings to Associate Members.

“T20 is driving enormous growth in international cricket and this simplified structure gives 65 Associate Members who have all met the qualification criteria, the chance to qualify for the 16 team World T20.

“The ICC is committed to providing more competitive opportunities as part of our significant investment into the growth of cricket; as a result, there will be 12 regional competitions in the T20 format in 2018, followed by five in 2019, providing Members with a clear pathway to the ICC World T20 in Australia. This is just one of a number of improvements to our international competition structures for Associate Members that we are working on and will be announcing this year.”

Bermuda play their first match on Tuesday February 27th.
