On Day One Durham won toss and decided to bat they scored 403/7 declared after 96 overs, Rawlins finished with figures of 21-5-89-2.
In reply Sussex scored 299/6 declared after 72.1 overs, Rawlins led the charge scoring 117 not out.
Rawlins faced 180 balls in 240 minutes at the wicket, he hit 14 fours and 2 sixes in his inning.
Durham closed out the second day of play with the score of 161/4 after 34.4 overs, with Rawlins returning figures of 1-1-0-0.
