ICC Decline What Bermuda Has - Two Divisions

IslandStats.com
The two-tier idea for Test cricket that was shelved at the ICC chief executives committee meeting in Dubai earlier this month, www.islandstats.com takes a look at how this decision should make officials of the Bermuda Cricket Board who sit around the table at Charities House as well as club have a honest conversation about how Cricket could be improved overall.

The decision or purpose for the two Divisions in Bermuda was suggested so that the so called better players would be challenged each week at a higher level, however if one looks at the recent team that went down in 4 matches in Canada did not have the targeted players.

The team that will make up the Division 4 team will be chosen from 4 overseas players, 7 First Division players and 10 Premier Division players.

www.islandstats.com looked at some of the reasons behind having two Divisions in Bermuda and also how having one Division could help, now many would want instant satisfaction, however the reality is that Cricket needs attention and years to get itself back on track.

Benefits of Having Two Leagues

A Two Divisions system gives each team a battle of somewhat equality in level of players each week. Teams would be encouraged to bring in other players from other clubs to strengthen their team.

A Two Division system increases opportunities in both Divisions for games to be competitive, with supposedly closer-matched teams playing each other, making it a more interesting contest for fans.

The Drawbacks of Having Two Divisions

A danger of widening the gap between the top and bottom sides. Without playing higher-ranked teams, there is the chance the First Division clubs would struggle to improve their cricket.

Currently look around at the Premier Division clubs and count the amount of players who started out at a club in the First Division and now play cricket for another club.

Fringe players in clubs don’t get a chance to play in the Two Division system as clubs have a win at all cause mentality and only play the so called better players.

A concern that the top clubs would become stronger and the bottom clubs would become weaker because players want to challenge themselves and because of the two Division system they leave home.

Currently a team can settle for second to last in the Premier Division and second in the First Division if they feel they can defeat the other in the play-off.
