With at least nine of the current Bermuda National Cricket squad members who were asked to train are abroad, either working or studying more questions are being asked.
David Hemp, Stefan Kelly, Kamau Leverock, Delray Rawlins, Chris Douglas, Christian Burgess, Tre Manders, Onias Bascome and Joshua Gilbert, are all currently off island which if the Bermuda Cricket Board select this group only leaves five spots up for grabs if a squad of 14 is selected.
The questions are coming in fast and furious:-
Are these players overseas guaranteed a spot, if they are or not has this been expressed to the players who are asked to train on a regular basis in Bermuda?
Does that leave them to have a fair shot at a spot?
Who is assessing the overseas players, what terms are being used to monitor their progress?
Will they be selected because they are playing at a suspected higher level?
Are the players in Bermuda who put in the hard work and train, but because they are restricted to the amount of cricket being played in Bermuda are up against more obstacles than just training?
Before we start talking about who is not training, we should be respecting the players who are, as they are just as important, no one player can win a game, he or she needs partners to do so.
If batting if the person runs out of partners game done, if bowling, if the fielders and the other bowlers don’t do their part game done!
We can’t expect everyone to agree, but if players are asked to train, they are all considered big name players, and who decides anything other?
