In a media release last week the ICC noted that the USA Cricket Association remains suspended by the ICC and encouraged it to work more closely with ICC management to try to unify the cricketing community in the USA.
But here comes news that the ICC has planned several near-term and strategic initiatives as part of its continuing efforts to develop a strategy for promotion and development of cricket in the USA.
First, ICC is conducting a Youth Participation Seminar in Colorado Springs over the weekend of February 13th in furtherance of its vision of making cricket 'the fastest growing participation sport in America for females and males.' Colorado Springs was chosen due to its strategic location - the city is home to the US Olympic Training Center and US Olympic Committee's headquarters are located there as well.
The Bermuda Cricket Board has remained silent on these issues publicly, but the following questions need to be asked.
1. Why would a Suspended member of the ICC get more attention than members in the same region who have abided by all the rules? 2. If the USA is suspended who is the ICC or for that matter the West Indies Cricket Board dealing with to get USA players to attend events? 3. www.islandstats.com reported just yesterday that Kamau Leverock has been selected by the MCC Combined Universities for a Preseason Tour in March, but whomever is incharge of the ICC Americas selecting teams don’t think he or any other Bermudian cricketer is/was good enough to represent the Region? 4. Clubs should be looking out for their players and need to demand what the BCB is doing to fight for the right things in Cricket in the Americas.
