On July 27th, the Appeal Committee (consisting of three non-Affiliated Eastern County Cricket Association (ECCA) members) heard the Cleveland County Cricket Club's (CCCC) appeal against the decision made by the ECCA to strip them of the ECCA Trophy and award it to Bailey's Bay Cricket Club.
The appeal committee heard verbal submissions from CCCC (Against the decision) and ECCA (In Support of the Decision) as well as considered the Match Manager's Report, the Umpire's Report, a match report submitted by BBCC, ECCA Constitution and By-laws, ECCA Rules and Regulations and Code of Conduct of the Eastern County Cup, ECCA Senior Cup Game - By-laws and Rules and Regulations and Code of Conduct and ICC Laws (Law 18 and Law 42 (2)).
On August 3rd, the appeal committee submitted their report with the following conclusions:
A. Granting the appeal of Cleveland County Cricket Club
B. Setting aside the Decision of the Eastern County Cricket Association to award the Trophy to Bailey's Bay Cricket Club which was made on the basis that Cleveland County Cricket Club brought the game into disrepute.
As a result of the events of July 18th, after the 2015 series concludes, the ECCA plans to take a look at our rules and regulations and make the necessary updates and modifications to ensure that protocols are in place to address these types of incidents in the future. We look forward to emerging from the 2015 series having taken the necessary steps to protect and ensure the history, relevance and prominence of our now 111-year old competition remains intact.
The ECCA would like to thank the Appeals Committee for their hard work and ask for understanding as we accept the findings of the Appeal Committee. We now must turn our attention to continuing the series with Round 2 to be held on Saturday August 15th when the Champions Cleveland County Cricket Club will take on Flatt's Victoria Cricket Club at Lord's in St. David's.
