The Bermuda Cricket Board confirmed that it has secured opportunities for two local umpires to officiate at an international cricket event later this month. Roger Dill and Melvin Best will be travelling to Panama to umpire in the 5th Central American Cricket Championships from March 19th to March 22nd. This is a T20 Tournament featuring seven Central and South American teams and a team from the MCC.
Lloyd Fray, President of the Bermuda Cricket Board said, “I am grateful that the work of our Executive Director, Neil Speight, has enabled the Bermuda Cricket Board to make available to the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association the opportunity for two of its umpires to gain international experience. Chances to officiate at the international level are very difficult to garner and we have an enviable track record of our very own Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association members being successful in ICC events. I expect that Dill and Best will make Bermuda proud on and off the field. I hope that this provides further inspiration for up and coming umpires to continue to invest their time and efforts into our great sport.”
A Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association spokesman noted, “We the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association and the Bermuda Cricket Board are pleased to work together again to send two umpires to participate in the 5th Central American Cricket Championships. Best is one of our up and coming umpires and Dill is one of our senior umpires. This opportunity will provide Best with the exposure to work alongside Dill in this tournament and further enhance his umpiring skills.”
