Willow Cuts Retain Western County Cup

Southampton Rangers 111 Willow Cuts 112/2

At the Southampton Oval the defending champions Willow Cuts won the toss and elected to field. From the start former Southampton Rangers captain Malachi Jones had the challengers in deep trouble, however he found a stumbling block in the name of Olin Jones his father.

Olin Jones who just came out of retirement to assist scored 40 as Southampton Rangers were bowled all out for 111, they could only field 10 men as they did not register guest player Derek Brangman in the required time to make him eligible. Also getting among the runs included another player coming out of retirement Gary Crofton who knocked up 20 and Curtis Jackson scored 12. Malachi Jones would not be denied on the day as he eventually trapped his father LBW, he finished with figures of 10-2-18-6, while Antonio Darrell bowled 2-0-13-1 and George O’Brien bowled 9-0-23-1.

In reply Willow Cuts scored 112/2, with Chris Douglas the top scorer with 67, Dwight Basden was on 21 not out and Dexter Basden was 17 not out when the score was crossed, Olin Jones returned bowling figures of 4-0-23-1, while birthday boy Dwayne Leverock bowled 3-1-2-1.

Junior Eastern County

Bailey’s Bay won their First Round match of the Eastern Junior County defeated the St. David’s Cricket Club by 161 Runs at Lords in St. David’s.

Batting first Bailey’s Bay scored 250/8 before declaring, Azende Furbert was their top scorer with 82, Shaquille Outerbridge added 59. Two St. David’s Cricket Club bowlers took two wickets, Giovonni Warren bowled 7-0-40-2 and Deany bowled 9-1-24-2.

In reply the St. David’s Cricket Club were bowled all out for 89, Sanjay Dill was the top scorer with 34, Giovonni Warren added 21, Malachai Trott was the pick of the Bailey’s Bay bowlers with figures of 4-1-7-4, Macquille Walker bowled 4-0-10-2.
