Bermuda’s lone Professional Squash player Micah Franklin is now back in Bermuda and will be starting his cross training in preparation for the Island Games next month which he is looking forward to using what he learned from his recent Professional Tour in Australia.
Franklin said, “My Australia Tour came to a close this past week with me playing my last two tournaments in South Australia, the Barossa Valley Open and the Ingle Farm, South Australian Open.” Franklin went on to day, “First up was the Barossa Valley Open which is a beautiful wine country known for some of the best wine in the world just an hours drive outside of the Adelaide City. I was matched up against a tough Frenchman Arthur Moneau and went down in a close 3-0 (11-8,11-8,11-8), I was playing better squash this match than my past two tournaments but just couldn’t win the more important points when they mattered most. Still taking many positives from the match after a more Micah worthy performance playing the squash that I know I can.” “My last tournament of my Aussie tour was in Ingle Farm Adelaide which will have to go down as my most memorable tournament to date results wise. I played my first round match against an Aussie junior Aiden Parkes and won 3-0 (11-6,11-4,11-3) in a fairly straight forward first win of my tour. Next up was Thoboki Moholo of South Africa who had just previously made it to the Semi-Finals of the Barossa Valley Tournament. I ended up winning 3-2 (7-11,7-11,11-9,11-4,13-11) in 67 minutes to make it to my first ever PSA Quarter Final,” continued Franklin.
Franklin concluded, “This was without a doubt my best win to date and after being 2-0 down and 10-6 down in the fifth it has to do go down as my most memorable match played. I’m the quarters I went out to a much better player James Huang 3-0 (11-8,11-1,11-0) in one of my worst defeats on tour, but nonetheless I’m taking many more highs then lows from this one to bring back to Bermuda with me.”
