The Annual West End Sailboat Club’s Edward Cross Long Distance race had everything one would have wanted from beginning to the end.
Stephen Dickinson captured his 16th West End Sailboat Club Edward Cross Long Distance Race Title yesterday, but he needed to use all his experience to do so.
When the race started there were boats over the line that included, the defending champion Rudy Bailey, Class Commodore Gladwin Lambert and Antoine Wingood.
As the race started the winds made it difficult to read at times, but even though he had to come back to make his turn, Bailey was able to make up ground with no other boats around.
Stephen Dickinson was able to get to the front along side Jamie Harvey and Scott Fox, the trio continued to put pressure on the fleet.
Bailey, Dimitri Stevens, Anthony Smith and Quinton Simons all went out to sea, however with the wind shifting their decisions proved to be the wrong ones.
As the fleet made it’s way down off the Ferry Reach Oil Dock, Fox had taken the lead but he knew it was not over as he had Dickinson hot on his heels.
The pair left Gladwin Lambert and Rockal Evans behind as they fought their way around Fort St. Catherine.
It was there that the experience of Dickinson paid off, the pair where neck and neck coming through the Town Cut Channel and Dickinson was able to move in front and record his 16th Long Distance Race Victory.
