Teenager Shaquille Dill continues to improve as he placed first in the Men’s 800m in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The fourth and final New Balance Boston Twilight Meet of 2013 was held at Bentley University. Conditions were starkly different to the heavy rain, cool and windy conditions that pervaded the areas.
Apart from a fluctuating headwind that athletes had to contend with on the second bend of the 400m track, the environment presented warm and dry conditions.
Dill had to do the lead running on his own as the field did not have the depth and quality competitors who otherwise may have driven Dill to a faster time in the Men’s 800m event.
All alone, Dill executed his race plan almost to perfection over, approximately, the first 790m. His intermediate times at the 200m, 400m and 600m were within the target ranges.
Dill was on course for an 800m time in the 1:48 category until approximately the last 10m of the race when he lapsed in concentration and effort.
He ran an official and season’s best time of 1:49.38 to place first. The second place athlete ran a time of 1:54.37. Twenty-six athletes competed in the men’s 800m event.
Three weeks ago Dill placed third at the second New Balance Boston Twilight meet with a time of 1:50.05.
