VSI Tampa Bay FC’ Mauricio Salles delivered a USL PRO single-game record five goals to lead his side to an 8-0 win against Taurean Manders and his Antigua Barracuda FC teammates at Plant City Stadium. Salles delivered five goals exciting the audience in the opening 30 minutes. Salles slowed as halftime approached and midfielder Shawn Chin took over in the 45th minute with the sixth goal.
“It was a great match, the last two weeks I had a concussion and I was working hard to get back on the field," Salles said. "Finally, I got back on the field and did a great job and it feels great. But more importantly we got the win. It's about the team.”
Sebastien Thuriere secured VSI’s seventh goal in the 72nd minute of play and Karamba Janneh rounded out Tampa’s scoring spree with the eighth and final goal of the match. The goal, created by a hard tackle from Antigua’s Hazeley Pyle on Jamie McGuinness, was assisted by Salles.
“We talked about coming out and putting together 90 minutes and being disciplined, overall we did that. We maintained focus,” Tampa Bay interim coach Joel Harrison said. “Obviously Mauricio Salles had a great night but all over the field I thought everyone did their job. That is what will make us continue to be successful.”
