Pearson and Harvard Finish Second

Shelley Pearson and her Harvard University Heavyweight Rowing crew teammates finished in second place overall at the 2013 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship at Cooper River Park.

Harvard showed the depth of the team by qualifying for each Grand Final event and finishing in the top three in five of six finals.

Harvard earned two second-place finishes, three thirds and one fourth during the day which featured near perfect conditions. Princeton won the team points title with 81, seven more than Harvard.

In the marquee event, Pearson and her Harvard First Varsity Eight teammates, ranked No. 8 in the country, finished in third. No. 5 Princeton and No. 9 Yale were first and second, respectively, and held the top two spots from start to finish.

Princeton and Yale were within 1.54 seconds of each other after 500 meters with Princeton leading and Harvard 4.12 seconds off the pace.

Princeton advanced its lead to nearly five seconds by the midway point, as Harvard and Yale continued to fight for second and gain distance on the following crews.

Pearson and her teammates tried to make a push in the second half of the race, but Yale held off Harvard for second, finishing 4.25 seconds ahead.

Princeton was first clocking 6:29.96, 6.90 seconds in front of Yale who crossed the line in 6:36.85 and Harvard finished in 6:41.10.
