Haley Powell and her Roger Williams Women’s Sailing teammates competed on the first day of the 2013 Sperry-Topsider/ICSA Women's Semi-Final Championship, the Roger Williams University Sailing team concluded the opening day and sits in eighth place of the event. Roger Williams began the event with a strong start, compiling 21 points between A and B Division over the first two races to move into third place. However, a 14th-place finish at A Division in the third race dropped them into a tie for fifth.
A Division closed out the final five races with all top-ten finishes, including a fifth-place in the sixth race. B Division placed 12th or better over the same stretch, pulling off a runner-up finish in the penultimate race.
Powell and Rachel Perry hit the water for Roger Williams in the A Division, while Annie Schmidt, Samantha Bobo, and Jaye Fahey represented Roger Williams in the B Division. Nine teams have already qualified for the National Championship: St. Mary's College of Maryland, U.S. Naval Academy, University of Minnesota, Boston College, Yale University, University of Washington, Stanford University, College of Charleston and University of Texas. Nine more teams will qualify over the next few days from the 18 currently racing in the Semi-Finals.
