Nineteen years old Shaquille Dill, who was a 800m Semi-Finalist at last year’s IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, ran a season best and his second fastest time to date.
Dill clocked a time of 1:50.05 at Cushing Field Complex at UMass Lowell, approximately 25 miles north of Boston, at the second of a series of four New Balance Boston Twilight Meets.
Dill was one of nine runners in a strong field who competed in the first and fastest of three sections of the Men’s 800m event. Dill executed a number of good aspects to his race as he passed three runners over the last 100m and was closing the gap on the two leading runners before running out of real estate.
The first three runners, that included Dill, crossed the finish line within a span of 0.41 second. (Twenty-eight athletes competed in the Men’s 800m event).
Dill began his 2013 competitive season one month ago at the three-day Sea Ray Relays Meet at the University of Tennessee. At that meet he competed in the Open section of the Men’s 400m and the Men’s 800m Showcase event.
He ran a fifth place time of 48.14 seconds in the 400m among the open field of more than 40 athletes and earned third place with a time of 1:50.48 in the 800m Showcase event.
Plans are underway to have Dill compete in the fourth and final New Balance Boston Twilight meet on June 8th in Waltham, Massachusetts and the New England Open Track and Field Championships toward the end of June.
Dill was accompanied, on both occasions, by his coach Gerry Swan.
