Five days after reporting on the Bermuda Under 14 Tour of Canada, we can now report the USA Rugby South All-Star team has named its squad to take on Bermuda on Saturday, at the Nation Sports Centre in Bermuda.
The USA South team has so far put in a remarkable performance, winning all of their games in the North American Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) championship, including a rain-soaked 9-7 edging of the Cayman Islands. They have done this despite missing players from some top playoff clubs, especially Life University.
Led by Derek Wolfe, the Nashville RFC loose forward who has had a wonderful season for the Panthers, and with several other players from lower-division clubs and some colleges, this team has come together to beat Mexico and Jamaica. That put them in the North Round Robin playoff. Their first game, May 4th, was a 9-7 victory over Cayman Islands. Now they face defending NACRA champions Bermuda.
If the South wins this game, they will play the winners of the Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago round robin. Barbados travels to Guyana this weekend.
