International Invitational Race Week Round Up

IslandStats.com
Etchells Fleet

With 9 of 12 scheduled races done the Etchells go into their last day of racing with very close scores. Leading by a slim margin is CEO of Argo Group, Mark Watson III – provisionally he stands on 22 points with Bermuda’s Will Thompson is close behind on 27 points, while Tim Patton has 30 points and Great Britain’s Jason Owen has 31 points. Tuesday’s 3 scheduled races are critical for all skippers as race drops will take effect when scoring final results – drops can drastically alter the final standings with boats sailing so close together.

J105 Fleet

The J105 fleet has also concluded 9 of 12 races and the competition between current provisional leaders Trevor Boyce/Michael Nash of Yabsta, James Macdonald of Passion and Chuck Millican of Elusive is tight. Yabsta current stands on 16 points, Passion on 19, Elusive on 20 before taking drops into account.

IOD Fleet

The most seasoned sailor in the IOD World Association, Jan Petter Roed of Norway, currently stands atop the points table with 19 points. Not even a shredded spinnaker slowed the veteran sailor and his crew down today. Will he be able to maintain his lead to once again raise the Vrengen Gold Cup trophy he award to the BIIRW? Not if Giles Peckham of the Daring Fleet has any say – he’s currently on 21 points with Bermuda’s George Cubbon on 26 and Patrick Cooper on 30 points. Once again no drops have been counted yet. The IODs race two series (A and B) with the cumulative of the two series deciding on the overall winner. Series A finishes tomorrow morning and Series B will start tomorrow afternoon.

Lasers Fleet

Hot! Hot! Hot! Is the action with the Lasers and with 7 races completed it will all be down to drops over the next two days of racing. Malcolm Smith is in first place on 18 points with Royal Bermuda Yacht Club’s Racing Coach Sean Evans has 26 points and Sara Lane Adderley currently has 30 points. However, once the provisional first drop is taken into account Evans leaps ahead on 9 points to Smith’s 12 and Adderley has 21.
