Rookie Ryan Spears fired a Bogey-free, 6-under 66 to move into the lead after the first round of the Web.com Tour’s South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Co.
Spears was nearly flawless through his first 13 holes, chalking up six Birdies and needing only 14 putts to reach the top of the leaderboard. The former Wichita State star finished with five straight two-putt pars and a one-stroke lead.
Michael Sims ended the day T61st at Even Par.
Sims’ First Round started out on the Back Nine with back to back Pars, Sims then had a Bogey on the par four twelfth falling to 1-over, following a Par on the thirteenth, Sims then had a Birdie on the par three fourteenth to move back to Even Par. Sims closed out his first nine holes with four consecutive Pars to make the turn at Even Par.
On the Front Nine, Sims started out with four consecutive Pars, he then had a Birdie on the par five fifth to move to 1-under par. Sims than ran off three consecutive Pars before recording a Bogey on the par four ninth to close out his round at Even Par.
