Zaire Simmons and her Virginia University Women’s Tennis teammates shockingly went down 5 – 3 to Chowan University in the 2013 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament Semi-Finals.
Chowan took control of things early with a pair of doubles wins, Virginia State's sole doubles win game at the number two spot where Simmons and Amanda Spencer took an 8-1 doubles win over Straffai Cleveland and Jessica DeBackre.
Chowan’s Breanne Johnson defeated Simmons in the number two spot to take the 5-3 lead and punched her team's ticket to the championship round of the match.
