Shelly Pearson and her 11th ranked Harvard University Women’s Heavyweight Rowing crew first varsity eight teammates picked up its first win of the spring season and took home the Class of 1975 Cup by beating No. 5 Princeton and No. 17 Cornell.
The racing was done with a building tailwind throughout the regatta and a slight tail current.
Harvard’s top boat went neck-and-neck with Princeton in the marquee race of the day before coming away with a 2.2-second victory. Pearson and her teammates stopped the clock at 6:11.7, as Princeton trailed at 6:13.9 and Cornell followed at 6:25.9.
It is the 12th Class of 1975 Cup for Harvard and first since 2007, Princeton has won 24 trophies, while Cornell owns one victory in 1983.
