It’s do-or-die for the Bahamas National Rugby squad, when they step on the rugby pitch this Saturday. The Caribbean Championships pre-qualifying match will put Team Bahamas up against a select USA South squad, with the teams playing for the final spot in the Northern Caribbean group at the Winton Rugby Pitch.
The winner of the match, will advance into the group with Bermuda and the Cayman Islands for the North Caribbean Championship. The USA South squad defeated Mexico and Jamaica earlier this year. Chairman of the Bahamas Rugby and Football Union (BRFU) Steven Johnson, as well as the local team members, are asking the public to come out and support them, in what is expected to be a tough match. If Team Bahamas is able to pull off the win, they will move into a home and away series, instead of the one-game elimination format which is being used on Saturday. It is possible that The Bahamas can draw Bermuda first, and may have to play them on their home turf. Whichever team is selected first, Johnson said that Team Bahamas will be ready, especially since they will be coming off a big win.
