A growing concern has grown around the island since the renaming of the name change from “Bermuda Half Marathon Derby” to “Appleby Half Marathon Derby” to reflect Appleby’s longstanding support as title sponsor.
The Director of Youth and Sports Norbert Simons has requested a meeting with the Half Marathon Derby Organizing Committee to discuss the name change.
Simons was disturbed with the change after no consultation with his department as they have already started to co-ordinate meetings for the Day and the Race.
The Department of Youth and Sport meet with all the stake holders regarding the race that include the Police, Regiment Volunteers and staff, as well as allowing the Half Marathon Derby Organizing Committee the usage of the facility for free as it reflects Bermuda Day.
