ICC Americas Looking for Regional Referees

The International Cricket Council (“ICC”) is the global governing body for the sport of cricket. They are looking for an experienced individual to join the Regional Referees Panel.

The position will be based in the Americas and reports to the Umpires and Referees Administration Manager.

Role

To ensure the game is conducted according to the laws and standard playing conditions, to uphold the spirit of the game and to accept overall responsibility for the playing control team.

Principal Accountabilities

Act as a Remote Referee for those matches where there is not a match referee present.

Act as a Tournament Referee at divisional, women and development tournaments.

Act as a Match Referee at ODIs and T20Is played between Associate member countries.

Receive Code of Conduct (COC) reports of breaches and to conduct COC hearings.

Receive reports from the umpires, regarding suspect bowling actions.

Be the independent and authoritative representative of the ICC at all matches to which appointed.

Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Experience
The base skills set


Must have very good computer literacy

Must be able to converse and conceptualize in English

Must have very good report writing abilities and skills

It must be advised these are base entry level skills, if not met, the candidate will not be considered.

Other key requirements

A former First Class player or umpire will be very favorably considered, not essential though.

Unquestionable high integrity

The candidate needs to be very current with their involvement in cricket. i.e. “In touch”

Good leadership and communication skills.
A worldly approach as the role requires maturity and common sense

Able to operate independently

Must have standing in the cricket community

Must be calm, mature, of good judgment and not afraid to make tough decisions.

A very good understanding of the playing conditions

Communications/Inter-personnel/ Motivational Skills

High work ethic

Professional and business-like approach and attitude

Performance orientated
Conditions of employment

Based in the region operating from own location

Travel during cricket season to officiate in matches

Hours of work to be flexible with cricket timings during weekends, nights, and public holidays.

Whilst not a significant source of income, appointment as an ICC Regional Referee offers past players in particular, an opportunity to give back to the game. It must be stated this is not a full time role or job but is a rewarding experience, which offers opportunities to be involved in the growth of the game in the developing cricket world.

To be considered, applications must be accompanied by a letter of endorsement from a Full Member Board, Associate Member Board or ICC Americas Regional Office.
