Bermuda's Win Two Medal's on Day One

Bermuda ended Day One of the 2013 Crifta Games in the Bahamas with two Silver Medals.

Bermuda captured their first Medal of the 2013 CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas with Sakari Famous finishing second in the Under 17 Girls High Jump behind Britny Kerr from Jamaica, while Kyrah Scraders captured Bermuda’s other Medal on the day when she finished 2nd in the Under 17 Women’s 1500m clocking 4:39.43.

Famous stood the test of time when she needed to leap 1.65m to advance on her final attempt she brought the large crowd to their feet when she cleared the bar, this would leave her to battle for the Gold Medal with Kerr at the height of 1.68m, Famous did not clear the bar on three attempts leaving her with her first and Bermuda’s first Medal at the 2013 CARIFTA Games.

A athlete of few words, Scraders stood on the podium and received her medal from the Bermuda Minister of Community and Cultural Development Wayne Scott, Scraders said, “The race was fun I did my best and I am happy with that.”

Quinn Simmons finished the Under 20 Boys Discus Throw 9th with his best attempt being 36.71m.

During the Under 17 Girls Shot Put Tiara Derosa finished 7th with her best toss of 11.83m, Derosa did have an even greater toss however it was ruled a foul by the judges.

In the Under 17 Boys 400 Meter Dash Michaiah Robinson finished 10th overall clocking 49.96, while Antonio Bailey clocked 50.88 finishing 11th, Rachel Fox advanced to the Under 20 Girls 400 Meter Dash Final after she clocked the 8th fastest time 58.43.

In the evening session Kionje Somner finished 11th in the Under 17 Boys 100m Dash clocking a time of 11.31. Taahira Butterfield finished with the 10th fastest qualifying time during the Under 20 Girls 100m Dash when she was clocked across the line in 12.23. Jeneko Place’s time of 11.04 saw him record the 12th fastest time in the Under 20 Boys 100m Dash.

Quaashie Douglas finished 5th in the Under 17 Women’s 1500m clocking 5:42.44, while Dage Minors crossed the line 4th in the Under 20 Boys 1500m in 4:04.90, Juma Mouchette finished 8th clocking 4:13.06.

Fox ran 59.85 competing in the Under 20 Girls 400m Dash Final and Kerri Furbert finished 5th in the Under 20 Girls Long Jump with a top leap of 5.57m.
