CARIFTA SPOTLIGHT - BRUCE DE GRILLA

As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Bruce Leroy De Grilla Jr, Born December 15th, 1995.

Q. How did you first get involved in Track and Field?
A.
My PE teacher at TNT Tatem - Mr. Euler

Q. Did you have a particular Track idol?
A.
No

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?
A.
My first time doing Carifta

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?
A.
It would have to be my family values and support.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
My flexibility

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
CAC JR. when I jumped a 6.53 at the age of 13

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2013?
A.
To do Carifta and for a college scout to spot me. Also I would like to do World Youth and PAN AM Games

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?
A.
Monday-(rest day)-Tuesday (working out at the gym) Wednesday (Track) Thursday (Track) Friday (Gym) Saturday and Sunday rest unless it’s a track meet.

Q. Did you compete in the 2013 CARIFT Games at the National Sports Center?
A.
Yes – under 20 relay. First leg.

Q. yes what do you think about it?
A.
It was good. It’s something that I would always remember. Carifta in BDA and I was in it.

Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in Track and Field?
A.
I race Moto GP bikes. But this year I have not been riding as much, did more on teaching younger ones how to ride. Other than that, working or cleaning my street bike V50, and hanging out with family.

Q. You are the president of BNAA for one day, what drastic changes do you make?
A.
I would pay the athlete. This would encourage them to do better also they would stay into track and field. And it would make track your main focus.
