As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Jamaica, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Sophie Froud, Born January 16th, 1996.
Q. How did you first get involved in Swimming? A. Through Triathlons; my parents wanted me to improve my swimming and it ended up being my best discipline.
Q. Did you have a particular swimming idol? A. I admire all athletes.
Q. When did you realize that you wanted to keep swimming? A. When I got on the National Squad, I realized how many different opportunities were available to me.
Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline? A. My strongest disciplines are Sprint and middle distance Freestyle.
Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement? A. Definitely my Breaststroke need the most improvement, Breaststroke has always been hard for me to do.
Q. What one moment in Swimming to date are you most proud of? A. Being able to qualify for CARIFTA again this year, despite recently fracturing my big toe.
Q. What are your goals for 2013? A. To qualify for CCCAN and Island Games.
Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you? A. I train six days per week, which includes swimming and dryland training.
Q. Have you seen the new 50 meter pool at the National Sports Center? A. Yes I went during the Open House evening and had a tour of the facility.
Q. If yes what do you think about it? A. I am very thankful to finally have a 50 meter pool in Bermuda, however I believe that it was a mistake to put a diving well in a 50 meter pool.
Q. What do you do when you’re not swimming? A. Try to keep up with the homework that I receive from the BHS IB Diploma course.
Q. You are the president of BASA for one day, what drastic changes do you make? A. Try to get more international teams to come to Bermuda to compete in order for the age groups to have more competition.
