CARIFTA SPOTLIGHT - SAKARI FAMOUS

As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Sakari Famous, Born February 10th, 2000.

Q. How did you first get involved in Track and Field?
A.
When I lived in The Bahamas for two years my primary school coach Nekeno Demeritte noticed that I did well in high jump in P.E. and I qualified for the national primary school championships and placed second. I have been jumping ever since.

Q. Did you have a particular Track idol?
A.
My cousin Clarence Saunders has been an inspiration.

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?
A.
When I joined Bermuda Pacers Track Club coach Calvin Simmons encouraged us to reach that level of competition.

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?
A.
High Jump is my strongest discipline.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
My 100 meter dash requires the most improvement.

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
Qualifying for the Carifta games 2013 A standard.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2013?
A.
To continue to beat my personal best in my events.

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?
A.
I train 4 days of the week - High Jump I train on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday- Running I train on Tuesday and Thursday.

Q. Did you compete in the 2013 CARIFTGames at the National Sports Center?
A.
I didn't compete, but I had fun volunteering as a basket carrier.

Q. What do you do when you're not taking part in Track and Field?
A.
I play basketball and I am learning to play golf and the guitar.

Q. You are the president of BNAA for one day, what drastic changes do you make?
A.
I will try to have more sponsored track meets with medals and trophies, because I think awards encourage young people.
