As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Taahira N. Butterfield, Born October 5th, 1996.
Q. How did you first get involved in Track and Field? A. I first got involved in track and field when I was 4 years old, my mother signed me up in the Telford Electric Mile race and I came third. I have been running ever since.
Q. Did you have a particular Track Idol? A. Carmelita Jeter because she is an excellent 100 meter sprinter and a great role model for girls who want to get into the sport of running.
Q. When did you realize you wanted to compete internationally? A. When I started to compete in track and field.
Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline? A. The 100 meters would be my strongest discipline.
Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement? A. I would have to say getting out the blocks faster and my 200 meters
Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of? A. My one moment in my sport that I am most proud of would be that I made it to the finals of the 100 meters in the 2012 Carifta Games in my home country. Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2013 A. My goals for the rest of 2013 would be to get quicker, compete more abroad, stay focused and healthy and to always do my best.
Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you? A. I train (4) four days a week, working on speed work, block starts and endurance training. We train for about 2 hours per day.
Q. Did you compete in the 2012 Carifta Games at the National Sports Center? A. Yes, I competed in the 2012 Carifta Games at the National Sports Center. I competed in the 100m, 200m and the 4 x 100m relay.
Q. If yes, what did you think about it? A. I thought it was very exciting and live. To know that I was in my own country and everyone was watching and cheering for me made me push myself even harder to show everyone what I had in me. I also made a lot of new friends.
Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in Track and Field? A. I relax, support my friends in other sports, and help others.
Q. You are the President of BNAA for one day, what drastic chances do you make? A. If I were the President of BNAA for one day, I would implement that we have international competitions in Bermuda once or twice a month to push our athletes more.
