Lisa Leslie a former American Professional Women's Basketball player in the WNBA will be the Guest Speaker at the Women In Sports Expo scheduled for Saturday April 27th at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, this was announced today at a Press Conference.
With no Sports Reporter from the daily in attendance at the Press Conference, Bermuda National Athletics Association President Donna Watson said, “We are extremely excited to announce that Lisa Leslie has agreed to come to Bermuda and be the Guest Speaker at the Banquet.”
The Event also now has a Sponsor as Argus has been announced as the title sponsor of the event.
Leslie speaking via phone during the Press Conference said, “I am looking forward to coming to Bermuda and sharing my experience with the people of Bermuda, I am grateful that I have had this invitation extended to me and I can’t wait to get there.”
Leslie is a three-time WNBA MVP and a four-time Olympic gold medal winner, she was the number seven pick in the 1997 inaugural WNBA draft, she followed a superb career at the University of Southern California with seven WNBA All-Star appearances and two WNBA championships over the course of eleven seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, before retiring in 2009.
Leslie, a 6'5" center, is the first player to dunk in a WNBA game.
She was considered a pioneer and cornerstone of the league during her WNBA career. In 2011, she was voted in by fans as one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history.
On the Saturday following the Banquet will see a Little Girls rock 1 mile Under 18) race at 8:45am and then a 5k run/walk (Over 13) at 9:00am, a special invitation to past May 24th Female winners and some top female road runners to participate in the 5k event.
The expo then begins at 12 noon with speakers and demonstrations.
Guest speakers for the expo Paula Lewin (Bermuda Olympic sailor), Anjali Forber-Pratt (Paralympian), Jessica Lewis (Bermuda Paralympian), Chrissie Wellington(International Triathlete), Pauline Davis (Olympic Track Medalist), Bonnie Bernstein(ESPN reporter).
There will also be a panel discussion which will be moderated by Branwen Smith-King, Esther Maynard (International athletics official), Theresa Perrozi, Anthi Xioplia(Women’s Rugby representative), Bonnie and Pauline.
