As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Jamaica, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Ashley Irby, Born July 8th, 2001.
Q. How did you get involved in swimming? A. I was watching my older brother swim and I asked my mom if I could do it. Q. Did you have a particular swimming idol? A. No Q. When did you realize that you wanted to keep swimming? A. When I went on my first swimming trip away. Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline? A. Freestyle Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement? A. My streamline off of the walls and my Breast stroke. Q. What one moment in swimming to date are you most proud of? A. When I got a 1:06.63 in a 50m pool in 100m Freestyle when I was 10 years old. It was a record and a "AAA" in the 11-12 year old category. I am also proud of all of my records. Q. What are your goals for 2013? A. To get more AAAs! Q. Can you give an insight into a average week of training for you? A. I train Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun for my club and at least two mornings before school (sometimes three) for the National team. Q. Have you seen the new 50m pool at the Stadium? A. Yes Q. If yes, what do you think about it? A. It looked really deep! Q. What do you do when you are not swimming? A. I love to run and of course, homework! Q. You are the president of BASA for one day, what drastic changes do you make? A. I don't know.
