As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in Jamaica, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Madelyn Moore, Born May 17th, 2000.
How did you first get involved in Swimming? A. My parents put me in the learn to swim program when I was 2. I have been swimming ever since.
Q. Did you have a particular swimming idol? A. Until recently it was Michael Phelps, but since the 2012 Olympics Missy Franklin is awesome.
Q. When did you realize that you wanted to keep swimming? A. Last Year CARIFTA.
Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline? A. Freestyle and Backstroke.
Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement? A. Breaststroke and Butterfly, however all my strokes are constantly in need of technical improvement.
Q. What one moment in Swimming to date are you most proud of? A. When I made my first final at CARIFTA last year, also when I made the time of 1:01.96 during the 100m Freestyle at the Christmas camp. When I was clocked at 28.46 for the 50m Freestyle, both were Bermuda Age Group Records.
Q. What are your goals for 2013? A. I would like to Medal at CARIFTA this year, for individual events I would like to get under 60 seconds for the 100m Freestyle and under 28 seconds for the 50m Freestyle.
Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you? A. I swim 6 days per week on average 1 hour and 30minutes to 2 hours per session. I swim mornings 2 to 3 times per week and land training 3 hours per week.
Q. Have you seen the new 50 meter pool at the National Sports Center? A. Yes.
Q. If yes what do you think about it? A. It looks very impressive but very deep.
Q. What do you do when you’re not swimming? A. I get involved in school sports, Netball, Basketball, Cross Country. I have to keep up with school work to maintain my grades, I also eat and sleep.
Q. You are the president of BASA for one day, what drastic changes do you make? A. I would work towards getting permission for Children od PRC holders to represent Bermuda at CISC, CCCAN, PAN American Games and the Olympics.
