As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Antonio Bailey, Born June 13th, 1997.
Q. How did you first get involved in Track and Field? A. I got involved in Track and Field through a school Gymnasium teacher at MSA.
Q. Did you have a particular Track idol? A. Michael Johnson
Q. When did you realize that you wanted to compete internationally? A. I didn’t really realize until last Carifta, which was my first Carifta that I wanted to compete internationally.
Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline? A. I believe my strongest discipline is the 400m event.
Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement? A. At this moment I am only focusing on my 400m, so that I can bring my time down to be able to compete for a Medal.
Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of? A. to date, I am most proud of when I qualified for the 400m for this year’s Carifta Games.
Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2013? A. After Carifta my main goals will be to pick up the 200m and lower my 400m time to under 50 seconds.
Q. Can you give insight into an average week of training for you? A. I train three times a week, Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. Monday’s is Speed, Tuesday’s is Power and Thursday’s is Endurance.
Q. Did you compete in the 2012 Carifta Games at the National Sports Center? A. Yes
Q. If yes what did you think about it? A. I believe it was a good experience for me, and influenced me to train harder for Track and start a Track career.
Q. What do you do when you're not taking part in Track and Field? A. While I am not on the Track, I Sail and play Football. I am on the National team for both.
Q. You are the president of BNAA for one day, what drastic changes do you make? A. The only drastic change I can think about would be to invite overseas athletes to compete against our local athletes more often to expose our athletes to good quality competition.
