The first day of the 2013 Bermuda Open at the Port Royal Golf Course greeted the golfers with extremely fast greens the proved to be quite challenging for the players who commented that on some of the greens it was like “putting on ice”.
The wind on the back nine combined with challenging pin placements helped a number of players turn in higher scores than they had hoped for.
Leading the Professionals is Ian Doig from Canada who posted a great round of 73 despite suffering from the flu. Claude Grenier, who is currently tied with Eric West for second place, led for the majority of the day until Doig turned in his card, both Grenier and West shot opening rounds of 74’s.
Scott Barnett leads the amateurs by 7 on his home course of Port Royal, Barnett shot a 79, while Steven Head is currently on 86, whilst 16 year old Cory DeSilva, the youngest player in the tournament, is not far behind after shooting a round of 89.
