CARIFTA SPOTLIGHT - ETHAN PHILLIPS

As we countdown to the 2013 CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas, www.islandstats.com will be spotlighting the Athletes who will represent Bermuda. Today with we highlight Ethan Philip, Born May 13th, 1997.

Q. How did you first get involved in Track and Field?
A.
My dad, Anthony Philip, was a Triple and Long Jumper, so I guess it was in my genetics. I started to train seriously in September 2011 with my current coach, Mr. Brian Wellman

Q. Did you have a particular Track idol?
A.
Irving Saladino

Q. When did you realize that you wanted to compete internationally?
A.
After I was given the privilege to represent Bermuda in my first international sports meet ie. Carifta 2012 in Bermuda

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?
A.
I don't quite fully understand the question; however, Long jump is my strongest event.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
Triple jump - in my set phase, I crumble too much.

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
Competing in the 2012 Carifta Games.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2013?
A.
To qualify for the World Juniors.

Q. Can you give insight into an average week of training for you?
A.
I am able to train 4xs a week (usually from 4.15 till 6pm), and this includes one day at the gym for strength training.

Q. Did you compete in the 2012 Carifta Games at the National Sports Center?
A.
Yes

Q. If yes what did you think about it?
A.
It was an exciting experience as it was my first competition with international athletes.

Q. What do you do when you're not taking part in Track and Field?
A.
I have another activity which I love to do, and that is, Free-running and Parkour.

Q. You are the president of BNAA for one day, what drastic changes do you make?
A.
Hmm... maybe elongate the qualification time for athletes to qualify.
